World pleasure- Peace, Music Challenge day 6

BASSLINE. THAT BASSLINE. ITS ORGASMIC.

Sorry about that, but honestly, it’s brilliant. Well, its pretty average actually, but it stands out so much, and on a good pair of headphones or on loud speakers its sounds incredible.

The lyrics are great too. They match the ‘groovy’ sound that the song gives out.

It’s six and a half minutes long, and I’m not complaining.

Moriaty- Bitten, music challenge day 5

Moriaty are another new band for me. They describe themselves as a ‘filthy dirty blues band’ which is pretty spot on.

Bitten is one of my favourite tracks by them. The bass line and riff is incredible. The vocals are pretty unique. I haven’t heard anything like them before.

Listen here (its not the best sound quality, but it’s the only one I can find on YouTube)

Sebastien Grainger – It’s a Living, Music Challenge day 4

When a band has broken up, and a member of that band anounces a solo project, we never expect much of it. This, however, was absolutely fantastic.

The vocals are pretty unique; slightly grungy and distorted. The song itself is pretty catchy, and it’s easily made it’s way onto my summer playlist.

Graingers solo career was great, but it will never be better than Death From Above 1979.

Crosstown Traffic – Jimi Hendrix, Music Challenge day 3

This is another one of those songs that I’m going to find very hard to write about.

Hendrix is new to my music playlist. Not because I’ve never liked him, simply because I’ve always jumped to conclusions and decided that  it’s not my kind of music. But recently, I decided to give it another try and I’m pretty much addicted.

This song stands out to me. It’s mainly the fact that it sounds fucking incredible on headphones.

Turbowolf- Nine Lives, Music Challenge day 2

Over the past few months, Turbowolf have been growing on me. A lot. I’ve seen them live twice, With Death From Above 1979 in Brixon and in Southampton, and they give off such an incredible perfomance.

This is one of my favourite play-loudly-in-the-car songs. This may be one of my favourite singles of 2015, too.

The riff, synth lines and lyrics are complete perfection. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to explain my love for this song.

Courtney Barnett – Pedestrian At Best, Music Challenge Day 1

This song is classic Barnett. Catchy, with a fantastic vocal performance. It features a grungy riff with fun and witty lyrics; ‘I think you’re a joke, but I don’t find you very funny’

I’ve been listening to this song for days now, and I simply can’t get it out of my head. I love her new album, and I would really recommend listening to this song!

365 DAY MUSIC CHALLENGE!

I don’t post a lot anymore. School is insanely busy. Each post takes about two to three hours to plan, write and check over and I really don’t have that much spare time.                                                                                   Instead, the 365 day music challenge is something I’m going to attempt. It’ll be a song review, daily for 365 days. They’ll be short, maybe 5 or 6 sentences, so It won’t take too long to write. I also have absolutely no idea how this will turn out. It might suck but It’s worth a try!

I’ve always loved writing, so I don’t want school to prevent me from doing so! Hopefully you guys will enjoy reading this just as much I will enjoy writing it!

(Also, This starts tomorrow.)

Until Next Time!

Liking music and Appreciating music

The difference between liking and appreciating music is fairly large, to me. It isn’t about the amount of live concerts you go to, or the amount of vinyls you own, as that is just a way to show your love or appreciation for music.

It’s about what you think when you hear a song.

When hearing a song, some may think ‘I like this song, I enjoyed it’ and end it there, thinking nothing more of it. This is Liking a song. Liking music is when you understand that you enjoy an artist or song. To me, liking music is very simple. It’s how most people start to get into music, or how people begin to appreciate music.                               As a blogger of all music-related things, It’s impossible for me to say that I Like a song. I feel like it isn’t enough. Liking music is very simple, but It’s certainly not a bad thing.

Writing on my perspective on music, this part will be a little easier.

The appreciation of music is much more complicated. To me, appreciating music is thinking further into an artist or song, thinking about the lyrics and understanding what they mean and thinking of the reasons why you like that artist or song. Appreciating music doesn’t necessarily mean you have to enjoy it. It simply means that you have a deeper understanding of an artist or song and that you see what lies underneath a piece of music.

A lot of people think that you have to have a lot of CD’s or vinyls and go to a lot f concerts to show you seriously appreciate an artist, which is something I have never agreed with.

I asked my tumblr and personal FaceBook followers to answer the following questions. It was really interesting to see what their opinions were!

Would you say there is a difference between ‘Liking’ music and ‘Appreciating’ music?

@ Silver-Hill :  I see a difference between “liking” and “appreciating”. I feel like “liking” is a stronger word,  you know? It means more in my opinion. If i had to say “hey i like this band/music” it would be a like/love kinda thing.

Tegan T. :  “You appreciate a song when you know that someone wpent a long time trying to make that song perfect so it helped someone or made someone smile. You know you’re listening to a song you appreciate when you feel the song.”

Hannah F.  : “I would say there’s a difference between Liking and Appreciating. If you look at the definitions of both words they are completely different. When you appreciate music you understand the full value of it. And thats a big difference to just liking it.”

Name an artist you like/appreciate and explain why!!

Hannah F. : “I appreciate Pierce the Veil because their lyrics are very deep and and meaningful and have helped a lot of people”

Anonymous: “It’s difficult to pick out one artist that I like more than many others. But music in general is something i’ve always appreciated, no matter who is playing”

What makes someone a ‘true fan’ of a band or artist?

@ Silver-Hill : Well it’s not about how long you’ve known the artist/band/whatever. I think it’s about the way they make you feel and how they inspire you. It’s about the way you see them, and see through what’s visible.

Hannah F. : “that you just listen to their music! You don’t have to have all their merchandise and own all their music, you just have to appreciate and enjoy the music.”

I’d love to hear what you think. I think this subject is a matter of opinion and what music means to you in general. So please take that in mind when writing an angry reply!

Like usual, thank you for taking the time to read this! What do you think? How could i improve? Is there anything you’d like to me to talk about next? Drop a comment and I’ll see what i can do!

Until Next Time!

An update!

Hey guys!

I’m just popping in to say that I’m going to start posting more than just music reviews. I do love writing them, however i feel as if my blog is boring and plain with just one type of post.

Therefore, I’m going to start posting a larger variety of music related content. Favourites, band updates, reccomendations, opinions on other music news and a lot more. If you have any ideas, please let me know!

I hope this blog becomes a lot more interesting and engaging!

Until next time!

NEW BANDS! Febuary 2015

Its only half way through february, but i’ve descovered a lot of new bands over the last few weeks, and i feel like much more people need to know about them.

I discovered most of these through various spotify playlists and reccomendations from the guys at Spillers records in Cardiff!

1. Lets Wrestle

This indie rock trio have been together since 2006, however recently havereleased  some new music. Their music is mainly easy to listen to, slow and fairly relaxed. I listen to them mainly on long car drives at night or when just when you just need to throw some music on without thinking about it. I have really high hopes for them!

2. The Bohicas

If Jake Bugg was in a high school rock band, this is what they’d sound like.

This band is, what i would describe as, a grunge rock band from essex. They have a high energy and always seem to speed up your walk. They really deserve more credit and really deserve to be checked out!

If you like them, check out their tour dates for may 2015!

3. Modern Baseball

Modern Baseball are a pop-rock/ indie rock band from Philadelphia. Although they release their first album in 2012, it didn’t really blow up as much as their newest release has.

I think they’re pretty popular between the teen crowd. They seem to capture the socially awkward, awful relationships and social media that teens are surrounded by. They have a pretty similar feel-good vibe to Blink-182 or Sum 41. They deserve a lot more attention as they really seem to put a lot of effort into their music!

4. Years & Years

These guys already have a small following, but I have a feeling they are going to blow up in the next year.

The synth-pop trio Years & Years have been together since 2010, but haven’t seemed to make up until now. Their music is catchy and usually makes you want to dance. Its also strangely unique, dispite having some pop aspects to their music.

5. Bass Drum Of Death

Have i written about them before? I don’t know, but they’re too good to not talk about again.

Bass drum of death aren’t exactly a ‘new’ band, but they do have some new music, and its too good not to put on this list.

Their music probably fits into the garage rock genre, even though it seems to vary! I find it hard to write about this band, probably because its difficult find words to explain them.

Just listen to them. You won’t regret it!

I wasn’t asked/payed to advertise these bands, although that would be nice. This is just my honest opinion on bands I think deserve more credit for what they do!

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

What did you think? Is there anyone i missed? Anyone you want me to review? Drop a comment and i’ll see what I can do!

Until next time!
